I Am Famous

Today’s book is for all of you who have a little drama queen in your family – lucky me, I have TWO! I am Famous, by authors Tara Luebbe and Becky Cattie and illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff, stars little Kiely, who is convinced that she is famous. Who can blame her? Her parents seem to follow her around with cameras like paparazzi, documenting her every move. Her videos (shared by her parents) all go viral on social media, and her grandparents even send her fan mail.

Kiely has style, confidence, and a passion for singing, dancing and entertaining that will solidify her fame when she gets her big break and takes the stage at her grandfather’s birthday party.

But when her moment in the spotlight comes, things don’t go exactly as planned. Kiely falls, and she worries about how her audience (family) will react. The ending is sweet and full of positive affirmation. Kiely learns that no matter what, your family will always be your biggest fans, and that even when you are talented, sometimes you can still mess it up.

We loved this fun book! If your little one is drawn to the attention of the stage, Kiely’s story is sure to inspire confidence the next time they get the chance to dress-up and sing into the microphone. The humor in this book has its finger on what it’s like to grow up in the digital age. I laughed with recognition about how easy it is as a parent to over share your kid’s every move on the internet. What I loved the most though, is that this book gives girls the power to be confident in who they are, and the permission to make mistakes along the way.
